Hakkai tells Takemichi that he is wrong, as his own face does not have a bruise, while Yuzuha is injured. Although his encounter with Mitsuya[3] made him want to protect his family, he did not have the courage to stand up to Taiju. He confesses that he lied to Takemichi about his circumstances;[4] instead of him protecting Yuzuha from Taiju, it was Yuzuha who tried to protect him by taking twice the amount of beatings. As Yuzuha tells Hakkai to stop, Chifuyu, Inupi, and Kokonoi comment on Hakkai's deception and cowardice. Yuzuha says that it was her own decision, not Hakkai's fault. Hakkai apologizes to Takemichi for involving him in the situation through his fear, as he could only run from his weakness.
