Summary[]
Emma's mother abandons her
In a flashback, Emma's mother tells her she has to go somewhere far away, and leaves Emma at her grandfather's house; this was the last time Emma saw her mother. She notes that her mother's lips were redder than usual and she smelled of perfume. When Emma asks when she will come back, her mother responds when she finishes her errands. As Emma watches her mother walk away, she admits she understands how her mother feels.
In her grandfather's dojo, he gathers Shinichiro, Mikey, and Emma, telling them that they are siblings from now on. Mikey remarks that Emma is a foreigner, as she has a weird name' in response, his grandfather hits him in the head and orders them to get along. Shinichiro laughs, telling Mikey that he does not understand girls; he tells Emma that he will take her somewhere fun, and jokingly tells her not to fall for his looks. Emma tells him that his hair is dumb; laughing, Mikey tells an annoyed Shinichiro that he does not understand girls either.
Mikey's grandfather and Baji watch Mikey
As Emma watches her grandfather's martial arts class, Shinichiro walks by and compliments Baji on his fighting skills; Baji is delighted to receive this compliment. When his grandfather sees Shinichiro, he remarks that he is always messing around and never coming to the dojo, telling Baji not to be like him, as he has potential. He, Baji, and Emma bring their attention to Mikey, who flies through the air as he lands a kick. Baji asks how Mikey is good at martial arts if he never practices. Revealing that Mikey is his grandson, his grandfather says Mikey is a prodigy. Baji asks Mikey to spar with him, but Mikey says he does not want to get sweaty. When Baji questions why he came to the dojo, Mikey says he wanted to show off, much to Baji's irritation.
Baji and Mikey goof off
Emma breaks down
Baji asks him who Emma, who has been watching them, is. Mikey tells him that Emma is his younger sister, and they have different mothers. Baji says that "Emma" sounds like a foreigner's name, to which Mikey agrees. He dubs himself "Ed", short for "Edward", to match Emma's foreign name, and Mikey dubs himself "Mikey", short for "Michael". They run around the dojo, playing and joking around. In the midst of this, Emma admits aloud that she knows her mother hates her, as it is why she abandoned her. Even though she knows this, she cannot stop herself from missing her, as her mother told her she would return after her errands. Mikey and Baji watch as Emma cries.
Mikey offers to have matching names
Emma walks towards Draken
Later, when his grandfather asks how Emma is doing, Shinichiro says she seems to be pretending everything is normal and hiding her feelings. He says that he wants to make Emma smile; Mikey overhears this conversation and agrees. The next day, Mikey finds Emma practicing punches. He tells her she is doing them wrong and offers to spar with her. He tells her he will be called "Mikey" from now on, so her name will not seem weird if both of them match. Smiling with tears in her eyes, Emma says he does not understand girls, as she was not worried about her name. Mikey notes that she smiled, and tells her not to fall for him. She responds that neither he nor Shinichiro are her type.
In the present, Emma reflects that she has never felt lonely from that time on. Smiling, she walks towards Draken, who has been waiting for her outside.
