Shinichiro meets Izana
Young Izana is alone and abandoned in the institution,[2] until Shinichiro visited him, claiming to be his brother. Shinichiro, who Izana regarded as his one and only brother, taught Izana everything he knew, from fighting, delinquency, fashion, hairstyle, and even his own mannerisms.

Izana finds out about Mikey
A few years later, Izana shows up at Shinichiro's bike shop,[3] asking Shinichiro to ride on his bike and spend time with him. On Izana's bike, Shinichiro remarks that he is now riding the passenger seat, to which Izana is proud of his skills. When Shinichiro asks when Izana was released from reform school, Izana responds by suggesting Shinichiro leave the next generation of Black Dragons to him, as he wants to protect things important to Shinichiro. Shinichiro replies that he will consider it, thanking Izana; he explains that he wants to unite all his siblings, telling Izana he will leave the Black Dragons for him; then, Manjiro Sano will take over the Black Dragons after. Upon hearing this, Izana's vision becomes warped as he struggles to comprehend the fact that Shinichiro is not only his brother.

Kisaki approaches Izana
A few years after that, Kisaki approaches a depressed and drained Izana, remarking on his sorry state; he asks if Izana is depressed because his brother died.[4] After this encounter, Izana built Tenjiku.

Izana stands over Mikey

Izana wants to turn Mikey into Shinichiro
Back at the fight, as Izana faces Mikey, he tells Mikey that Shinichiro cannot be his ideal brother anymore; because of this, Izana plans to kill all of Toman and shape a distraught Mikey into Shinichiro. He tells Mikey to become empty for this. When Mikey asks if that is the reason he killed Emma, Izana responds by delivering a kick that throws Mikey onto the ground. Standing over Mikey, Izana says that Mikey took everything away from him, so he must kill him.
In another flashback, Izana promises Emma that he will come back for her, just before he leaves for the institution.[5]
