Hakkai yells for Mitsuya (manga)

Hakkai yells for Mitsuya

After amassing four members into Thousand Winters, Takemichi declares that they now require an advisor and someone with taste; unbeknownst to Chifuyu, Takemichi references their uniforms. With someone already in mind, the group seeks out Mitsuya. Takemichi and Hakkai are confident of his acceptance into the gang.

The quartet arrives at his apartment building; Mitsuya's mailbox is overflowing. Hakkai loudly calls out for him, as he did in childhood. When the door to Mitsuya's apartment opens, Luna shushes them and explains that Mitsuya is preoccupied; he is preparing for Japan's Fashion Designer Newcomer Award, which is next week. Confused, Hakkai recalls that Mitsuya dislikes prizes and awards. Luna agrees, but attributes his feverish motivation to Draken's death: since his friend's death, Mitsuya has isolated himself to design, even forgoing eating. His behavior scared both his sisters. Takemichi asks to speak to him.

Surrounded by sewing and drafting materials and empty food containers, Mitsuya sits in a dimly-lit room as he works on his designs. Frustrated, he crumples up a piece of paper and throws it, inadvertently hitting Luna. Because Mitsuya's work consumes him, he has neglected his appearance and well-being; he displays prominent undereye bags and grown-out facial hair, consuming convenience foods for sustenance.

As Mitsuya and Takemichi talk outside, Hakkai, Chifuyu, and Inupi watch, worried about his condition. Given his haggard appearance and weight loss, Draken's death affected him greatly. Mitsuya asks Takemichi why he came; Takemichi explains his goal to fight Mikey and asks Mitsuya to join them. However, Mitsuya interrupts, saying that he wants to show his design success to "him", referring to Draken.

Mitsuya remembers meeting up with Draken at Musashi Shrine. They remark on their overdue reunion, inquiring on the other's pursuits: Mitsuya's fashion and Draken's bike shop. Neither venture has progressed much. Abruptly, Draken asks if Mitsuya has gotten used to Toman's absence, adding that he cannot personally move on. He tells Mitsuya his plans to re-enter the deliquent world and rekindle his relationship with Mikey; in return, he urges Mitsuya to become a fashion designer.

Mitsuya's explanation moves Takemichi to tears. He tells his gang that Mitsuya will not be joining Thousand Winters, but they should support him in his endeavors. Inside, as Mitsuya resumes working, a photograph of Toman overlooks him.

A week later, clad in Thousand Winters' uniforms, the gang shows up to support Mitsuya at Japan's Fashion Design Newcomer Award.
