"An old tale" is the second chapter of the ninth volume and the 72nd chapter overall of the Tokyo卍Revengers manga series, written and illustrated by Ken Wakui.

Summary

Kisaki takes Chifuyu and Takemichi aside

After the Toman admins bow in greeting to him, Kisaki cheerfully tells them that the formalities are unnecessary. As Takemichi notes that Kisaki looks different somehow, Hanma mentions that Kisaki rarely shows up for admin meetings. Kisaki asks to speak to Takemichi and Chifuyu alone, taking them to a separate room.

Kisaki apologizes for Baji's death

Kisaki reflects on the past, telling them that he never thought that he would still spend time with the people he knew twelve years ago. He asks Takemichi and Chifuyu how they feel towards him, concluding that they hate him. Revealing that he set up Bloody Halloween by manipulating Kazutora, he tells them that Baji's death was his fault, to the shock of both Chifuyu and Takemichi, who wonders why Kisaki is telling them this information now. Chifuyu asks about Kisaki's motive, and Kisaki replies that he was desperate for power and admiration, but did not anticipate Baji's death. He tells Chifuyu that he means it, and bows in apology, saying that he has learned that friends are more important. When Takemichi asks if he regrets his actions, Kisaki replies that he never forgot what he did.

Kisaki reveals he orchestrated Baji's death

Though he contends that Takemichi and Chifuyu may still hate him, he requests to have a drink with them. As the three of them toast to Baji, Takemichi thinks that Kisaki has unexpectedly changed into a better person, wondering if the current future is a good one. Kisaki asks to say one more thing, revealing that his previous statements about Baji's death was a lie: he actually used Kazutora to kill Baji. Kisaki tells the shocked Takemichi and Chifuyu that he intends to continue from where he left off. Takemichi's vision becomes warped and he eventually blacks out. When he awakens, Takemichi is tied to a chair.
