Summary[]

Although they failed in preventing Hakkai from leaving Toman, Takemichi believes that Hakkai no longer has a reason to kill Taiju, as Mitsuya's agreement with Taiju freed Yuzuha from Taiju's violence. However, Chifuyu believes that going back to the future would be too risky if nothing changed, since Takemichi would likely be in jail[2]. Additionally, Takemichi did not personally change any event in the past, so it is unlikely that this would result in a different future.

Suddenly, Hakkai approaches and asks them to thank Mitsuya for him. When Takemichi asks why, Hakkai says that his home life is complicated, as he and his siblings grew up without the presence of either parent, which put Taiju in charge. Even in his youth, Taiju was powerful not only because of his physical strength, but because of his charisma as well. Hakkai says Taiju is an expert at using violence, giving it his all, even to his siblings.

Because Taiju used his love to justify his abuse, Hakkai grew up with a warped perception of love, until he met Mitsuya. Although Mitsuya's home life was difficult, as he had to take care of his younger sisters as well as himself, he smiled about his situation and extended his kindness to Hakkai. Hakkai says that he has sworn to protect his family ever since Mitsuya told him that violence should be used to protect others. From then on, Hakkai has been taking beatings meant for Yuzuha, in addition to his own. However, Taiju beat Yuzuha regardless.

Hakkai explains the agreement Taiju made with Mitsuya[3] likely has no value to him, and he will continue to hurt Yuzuha. When Takemichi asks Hakkai what they can do to help, Hakkai confesses that he is terrified and powerless when facing his brother. He concludes that things would be better if Taiju was not around. Explaining that he does not want to give Toman a bad name, he left the gang to pursue his intention to kill Taiju.
