"Christmas Eve" is the fifth episode of the second season and the 29th episode overall of the Tokyo卍Revengers anime series, produced by Liden Films.

Synopsis

Takemichi and Chifuyu hear from Hakkai about his determination to kill Taiju. They want to stop Hakkai, so they contact members of the Black Dragon, accompanied by Kisaki and Hanma, who say they want to stop Hakkai in order to destroy the Black Dragon. They obtain information about Taiju and are convinced that Hakkai will attack Taiju on Christmas night. Kisaki suggests that Takemichi and the others join forces to stop Hakkai, but Takemichi is unsure of his response.

Summary

Tetta doesn't believe that Manjiro will last much long as Keisuke Baji's death is weighting him down. He wants to support Manjiro, otherwise Toman is done. They will be keeping this mission a secret from Toman and because of that Tetta can't use anyone else than Takemichi and Chifuyu. Tetta then leaves, telling Takemichi that he will be waiting for his answer tomorrow.

Takemichi and Chifuyu agree to work with Tetta

Chifuyu is against working with Tetta, since he is the one that killed Keisuke and Hinata. Takemichi knows it, but doesn't know what else to do. Takemichi suggest that if they work with Tetta, they may learn something about him which may help them kick him out of Toman. Takemichi wants to avoid the future he saw and is ready to work with Tetta to achieve it. He asks Chifuyu to help him and Chifuyu accepts. Takemichi and Chifuyu then go and inform Tetta that they agree to work together, but only until Christmas and that they are only doing it to help Hakkai and have no intentions to become friends with Tetta.

The next day, Takemichi heads home, but on his way, he meets Hinata and Naoto. They walk together and sit on a bench. Hinata notes that she can hardly wait for Christmas. Takemichi then realizes he made plans with her on Christmas, but also have to deal with Taiju too. Naoto decides to leave them and head home, noting that he hates wasting time. Takemichi finds him sounding like Tetta and Hinata confirms. Takemichi is surprised that Hinata knows Tetta and she explains that they went to the same cram school while they were in elementary school. She explains that he was the smartest kid there and since they lived close to each other, they often walked home together. After that he went to a private middle school and Hinata haven't seen him anymore. Takemichi tells her that he is now a gang member and captain in Toman. Hinata is surprised, but states that Takemichi and Tetta would get along. While Tetta is awkward and blunt, he is good at heart. Hinata also reveals that the first time she met Takemichi, she was with Tetta.

Takemichi doesn't remember and seeing that, Hinata explains that when they were in sixth grade, she and Tetta were heading home after cram school. Hinata and Tetta see some middle schoolers torturing a cat, and Hinata decides to stop them. Tetta tells her she will get in trouble, but she doesn't listen. As she talks with the middle schoolers, the cat escapes and they decide to pick on her. Takemichi then comes running and dropkicks one of them. Wearing a cape, he announces he is a hero and that he won't stand for some middle schoolers ganging up on a little girl. The middle schoolers see that Takemichi is shaking and is afraid and mock him, but he still decides to fight them and gets beaten up. After that, Takemichi tells Hinata that since she is weak, she needs to think before she does stuff like this and leaves.

Takemichi doesn't remember it, but do believes he may have done it, since he was quite lame and came to help, but got beaten up. Hinata states he was amazing since he came to help even though he knew he would lose. Hinata reveals that on that day, she fell in love with him. Takemichi is surprised to learn that she loved him for so long. Soon Hinata leaves and reminds him that they will be meeting at Umishita Park on Christmas Eve. Takemichi leaves quite happy and realizes he can be with Hinata on 24th, while deal with Taiju on 25th. However, Takemichi then recalls that in the future Hinata told him that he dumped her on 24th at Umishita Park. He starts to wonder why he would dump her, but decides to not think about that. A man then approaches Takemichi, who Takemichi confuses for Naoto. The man introduces himself as Masato Tachibana, Hinata and Naoto's father.

Takemichi meets up with Masato

The two go to a coffee shop, where Masato reveals he heard a lot about Takemichi from his wife and that he is dating his daughter. Masato is quite busy with his job and is rarely home, and because of that Naoto hates his job. However, the other day, Naoto told him that he wants to become police officer. Masato is sure that's due to Takemichi and is thankful to him. Masato isn't sure that Naoto may be able to handle that kind of work, but Takemichi assures him he will be a good cop. Masato is glad to learn that Takemichi is indeed as nice as he have heard. Masato then asks Takemichi for a favor. Meanwhile, Hinata returns home and asks her mother if she still loves Masato. Her mother confirms it and Hinata wishes that ten years from now, she to say the same thing about Takemichi.

After Masato leaves, Takemichi recalls his request: to break up with Hinata. Masato wants Hinata to be happy, but as Takemichi is a hoodlum, he may get her involved with his stuff.

On Christmas Eve, Takemichi tells Hinata that they should break up. Takemichi states he has been thinking it for a while and that he likes someone else, and no longer likes her. Hinata then attacks him and starts hitting him, saying she hates him. After Hinata leaves, Takemichi recalls his moments with her, telling himself its for the better, but then cries and wonders what to do now as he loves her.

Later, Takemichi joins Chifuyu, Shuji and Tetta. Tetta explains that it all will happen at Udagawa Christ Church in Shibuya, where Taiju will be alone. Chifuyu wonders if the church won't be full of people, but Tetta explains that will be tonight, on Christmas Eve, and tomorrow's night, it will be empty. They will wait for Taiju outside the main chapel, as likely Hakkai would be inside waiting for him. Tetta wants Takemichi to speak with Hakkai and stop him. Tetta, Chifuyu and Shuji will beat down Taiju, before Hakkai can confront him.
