Kazutora admires Junpeke (manga)

Kazutora admires Junpeke

At the Hanemiya family's apartment, Kazutora Hanemiya asks his mother about the day's occasion. His mother lies and pretends to know about the event. When Kazutora arrives home later that day, he laments how she had forgotten about his birthday.

Kazutora claims that those who will never betray him are his friends, especially Junpeke who he idolizes for being seemingly cool and more mature than most. His friends greet him as Junpeke invites him to wander around the city that night. Mounted on his bicycle, Junpeke tells Kazutora that they will go to a karaoke bar and the arcade right afterward. At the same time, Kazutora admires his bell drop earring. Junpeke boasts about it and tells Kazutora that he refuses to give it to him because his ears are not pierced.

The group arrives at the karaoke bar and Kazutora contemplates about the good memories he creates with his friends; he believes that his anxiety disappears whenever he takes part in foolish activities with them, and that he prefers if time would merely stop. After leaving the bar, Junpeke apologizes for always borrowing his money. Kazutora denies that he is being used and supposes that he is just lending it to them.

They later arrive at an arcade, where Junpeke pushes Kazutora after getting teased for losing the game against him. Kazutora stumbles on his feet and steps on the plug of a game machine on accident. Keisuke Baji, who was recently using the machine, gets angry after the machine shuts down and erases his progress in game, and he threatens to kill the both of them.

Junpeke cheekily apologizes and instructs Kazutora to pay him ¥100. However, Baji punches Junpeke across the face before Kazutora can pay him. He says that money is not of importance as his hard work has been erased. Kazutora stops Baji from punching any further and tells him to not lay a hand on his friend. Baji commends his bravery, but takes him down with a hit across the face. He calls Kazutora and his group of friends a flock of sheep who merely pretend to maintain a friendship, then confronts him about being used as their "money tree" after noticing that Junpeke has already ran away. Kazutora disagrees, and insists that he only happens to coincidentally have money on him. Believing otherwise, Baji punches him once more and they fight.

After some time, outside the building, Baji pities Kazutora for being a pushover but says that he cannot hate someone who gets beaten up for their friends' sake. He then offers Kazutora to become his friend.
