Hakkai Shiba (柴 (しば) 八戒 (はっかい) , Shiba Hakkai?) is the Second Division Vice-Captain (弐番隊 副隊長, Niban-tai Fuku Taichō?) of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He is the younger brother of Taiju and Yuzuha Shiba.

Appearance[]

Hakkai is a teenager of above-average height with royal blue hair styled in a crew cut. A swirl design is shaved on the left side of his head, extending to the back of his head. His eyes are an indigo color, and he has a noticeable scar on the left side of his lip. He wears a concentric teardrop earring on his left ear. Two years later, Hakkai's hair is longer, and he has changed his earring to three connected rings. He ties his hair during the battle against the Kanto Manji Gang. In the present, Hakkai has dyed white hair and goes back to a crew cut style.

In an alternate present timeline, Hakkai wears a suit consisting of white pants with belt, a black dress shirt, and a white blazer. He appears to have put on more weight than usual, seen through his face and build. As a child, Hakkai has no mouth scar.

Personality[]

Hakkai is shown to be a timid but friendly, free spirited guy. When it comes to his personality, he is nothing like his older brother, Taiju, who is abusive and bloodlusted. Hakkai showed a lot of care and compassion to his sister and to his friends, he was even willing to take the blame for the murder of Taiju so that Yuzuha didn't have to suffer the consequences. Hakkai also gave up the comfort of being in Toman in order to help Takemichi escape from Black Dragon. He is very old-fashioned when it comes to his mannerisms and honor, feeling as if he owes Takemichi his life by calling him "Onjin" which translates to "A person who you owe your life to."

Hakkai is Toman's Second Division Vice-Captain, giving him command over the division's members.

Fighting Prowess[]

He is the second strongest in the Second Division and can take down the average delinquent with one punch. Though weaker than his older brother, Taiju, he is a capable fighter. Hakkai has also shown to be strong enough to land a chi punch to his brother's face. During the battle against the Kanto Manji Gang, Hakkai was able to carry and separate one of the Haitani brothers and easily defeat them.

Etymology[]

  • The name Hakkai means "eight commandments" (八戒).
  • Hakkai's surname Shiba means "brush, firewood" (柴).

    • A daily activity of a certain day (from morning till bedtime): It was going to be Taka-chan’s birthday, so he went with Yuzuha to Harajuku to buy presents. Yuzuha complained about all the clothes that he chose: “If that bald guy used this, he would look like a baseball boy!”. Hakkai wonders what Yuzuha really thinks about Taka-chan.
