Sanzu holds Takemichi at gunpoint

Takemichi Hanagaki rests at Udagawa Bowling after failing to find Bonten's true whereabouts for the fourth time. In the bowling center, he miserably recalls all efforts he had done in looking for Manjiro Sano and his friends's advice to accept Mikey's parting from them twelve years ago. Suddenly, he is held at gunpoint by someone who insinuates that they have known each other in the past.[2] He tells Takemichi that the boss will speak, and Mikey appears behind him.[3] Takemichi gives him an invitation to his wedding and says that he has accomplished a good future for everyone except him. Haruchiyo Sanzu threatens to shoot, but Mikey orders to speak to Takemichi alone.[4]

With Sanzu gone, Takemichi asks about Mikey's dark impulses. He reasons that, with everyone saved from a horrific future because of Mikey's promise to protect them, he will now save him in return. However, as Takemichi turns around to face him, he is instantly shot at the back. Takemichi falls on his knees.[5] Mikey says that he wished to not see him because he knew their encounter would end abhorrently and proceeds to the rooftop. As he walks away, Takemichi mumbles that he will save him regardless how many times it will take.[6]

Mikey views the cityscape from the rooftop and visualizes the Tokyo Manji Gang down below. Civilians crowd at the foot of the building and watch the event transpire. Sanzu, who is also on level ground, yells at Mikey to stop.[7] Nonetheless, Mikey jumps, but he is caught by Takemichi who refuses to let him die.[8] Mikey urges him to let go of his hand and explains that he had just shot him, but Takemichi rebukes his withdrawn behavior. He scolds him for constantly shouldering the pain and miseries all to himself and encourages him to open up for once.[9] As their clenched hands begin to loosen, Mikey asks Takemichi to save him from his troubles, triggering Takemichi's time-leaping ability for the final time.[10]
